Author Topic: Wifi syncing requires disconnecting ethernet cable  (Read 7529 times)

I am a recent purchaser.  My desktop is connected by ethernet.  The wireless router is located in a different room from the desktop, so I can't plug directly into that.

I never needed wifi before for the desktop, but since the syncing requires wifi, I purchased a USB WIFI device.  The device appears to work fine but Time Matters does not recognize any other devices for syncing unless I disconnect the ethernet cable, which is a pain,  What can I do about this?

As long as the desktop is connected in some way to your WiFi device, that should be ok.  For example if it is connected via Ethernet to the WiFi router (local network) that is ok.

Since you are taking about a "desktop" I'm assuming that you are trying to sync a Windows 10 computer to an iPhone/iPad?

If you are having to disconnect your Ethernet and use a WiFi device on your desktop computer to make it work, that means that your WiFi router is blocking the connection.

Ok, looking up some old thread.  First make sure that your Ethernet connection and WiFi routers settings are set to only do IPv4.  If it is set to iPv6 it can have problems with Windows.  On some of the routers it needs to have things like "UPNP" and/or "Multicast Streaming" turned on.  So you will have to either look to make sure that the router is set to only do IPv4 or that it is not Blocking Bonjour (port 5353) in some way.  Hope that helps.
