This was answered, but I have a further question.... (thought I would start a new thread because it was old)

I use multiple time entries for multiple employees and use "Payroll Item" to specify which employee. I thought there would be an easy way to see how much I owe people, but I can't figure it out...

That is primarily what we created the "Category" field for.  Add each employee name into the Categories and assign in the Time Entry.  You can then use the Report Filters to get results for each employee.
