Icon and Splash Screen competition

Thanks Adam for allowing me to post my ideas of a new icon and splash screen. I just hope I got the design submitted in time for people to vote. The icons are the same for the iphone and ipad so I left out the ipad version since I could only upload 4 attachments to this post. I have it created and ready to send if necessary. Let me know what you think. Thanks ahead of time to anyone who likes the design. Thank On-Core for the opportunity.

Now that jsboudreau's icon is ahead in the poll, I have a couple comments regarding the splash screens.

  1. The "$" in "Time Ma$ter" is a symbol I think some users were hoping to get away from, since it (incorrectly) implies that the app is limited to working in certain currencies.

  2. The slogan "The Ultimate Project Manager" looks nice, but it may not be a totally accurate description of the app.

  3. The copyright "(c) Animatrixproductions" is very prominent and makes it seem as though they are the author of the app. This is obviously up to Adam, but here are a few possible suggestions:
      a) mention Adam's company name in a way that makes it clear that On-Core authored the app and Animatrixproductions created the splash screen, or
      b) make the copyright/attribution text smaller, or
      c) add the copyright/attribution on the bottom of the Setup tab, but keep the splash screen looking clean.

Also, very nice work by integritydesigns as well. The international currency symbols on the stopwatch face is a nice touch. I hope the entry is not too late to get a fair chance too.

We will have the 3.5 release out (hopefully) within a couple weeks and I will mention in there again about voting and yet another new icon to check out.  Not to worry.

Now that I think about it, there might be a very good reason to keep the icon similar to the original. Some users will be surprised by the change and might be upset with how different it is (which might impact your app's rating). Users who haven't been reading the change log with each release (probably the majority) would be unaware of the poll.

Also, I really do think a stopwatch is preferable to a clock.

Just for fun, I made a small modification to Adam's original icon. Basically I cropped it. More specifically, starting with the splash screen, here is what I did:

Version 1
(a) cropped, to hide the green "$" and make "Time Master" script more legible
(b) erased the edge of the "9" on the lower corner

Version 2
(a) cropped, to hide the green "$" and make "Time Master" script more legible
(b) rotated very slightly, since the stopwatch wasn't perfectly aligned
(c) pasted the (un-rotated) original "Time Master" script over the rotated stopwatch, so the script font is crisp
(d) erased the lines on the lower corners

I suppose the iPhone adds its own glare and round edges, but I applied the effects to see how it would look. Of course, I don't know what I'm doing. I really just wanted to see how it would look.
